At the end of Kingdom’s first 10 episodes of season 2, Alvey’s plan for Jay had been successful. Both Ryan and Jay walked away from their fights with a champsionship belt, which can only mean one thing: It’s time for the two of them to get in the cage, a fight that will pit Navy St. against Navy St.

EW can exclusively reveal that Kingdom will return for season 2B on Wednesday, June 1. Picking up about three months after the events of season 2A, fans can expect the Ryan-Jay fight to create a divide in the gym.

“You have a situation where it’s essentially brother against brother,” showrunner Byron Balasco says. “It’s a family divided. There’s a certain civil war aspect to it in the sense that people in the gym aren’t quite sure how to act.”

As for the fighters themselves, Jay and Ryan will take very different approaches to their big showdown. “Ryan’s a guy who has been competing in sports his whole life so he’s used to fighting friends. Jay is not,” Balasco says. “I think Jay’s a little more emotional; it’s a little bit more of a conflict.”

In the middle of it all? Alvey, whom Balasco says is “essentially watching his son and his surrogate son fight each other.” It’s a scenario that’s only made more complicated by what happened with Ryan’s father at the end of season 2A. Not only does Ryan have to deal with the emotional weight of mercy-killing his father, but he has to find somewhere new to turn for support. And in reaching out for a father figure, he turns to Alvey, who might not be the best option, but as Balasco puts it, “It’s all he has.”

Yet, Alvey can’t just look at the fight as a father; he also has to look at the fight as a businessman. “Only one of them can win,” Balasco says, “and who should it be? It really divides the gym, it shakes things up. Lisa’s not there for a while to sort of navigate that for anybody, so the gym is very much fractured. I don’t think anybody’s quite sure how to deal with it.”
